During April 2024 South African avocado producers were finally granted access to supply India. Since 2018, Allesbeste has had the privilege of supplying Micro-clones to NutreeFarm in Pune India as an official partner nursery, selling plants to Indian Growers. NutreeFarm is also the licensed nursery for Maluma in India. Jeevan Kulkarni is one of the founders and currently a Director of NutreeFarm. During this session, he will elaborate on the developments currently in India as well as the opportunities this market holds for South African growers and producers in India.
Jeevan will reflect on his journey with Allesbeste, the first Maluma crop is coming into production, and his views on the growing number of Avocado orchards in India. India's climate, and specifically its diverse tropical and subtropical climate allows for an extended avocado season. Where are these regions and what is the growth potential? Although India is currently a massive market, it also seems that it will grow into an avocado-producing country that will supply its market, similar to Chile, Australia, and others. What is the expected growth rate of production within India? What can we learn from this, and how does it affect South African producers hoping to sell into India?
However, in the short term, let's face it prices in India are high. It poses a great alternative to supply via the Durban port, should Cape Town keep everyone in logistics on the edge of their seats during those endless windbound weeks. Beyond the 30% import tariff that could affect "back on farm" prices. What else should we consider and what should South African producers realistically expect from its marketing agency? Donovan Lewis will delve into these numbers and tell us what we could expect. One unique opportunity with India is also the ability of Maluma to travel within the cold sterilization protocol. During the past few seasons, multiple containers of Maluma have made their way successfully to Europe at 2 degrees Celsius. Does this potentially pose a competitive advantage? We'll share some reports on how the fruit arrived and strategies we believe will aid this market.
After a few tough seasons for growers and marketing agents alike, from wars, tough and unpredictable markets, unreliable freight, and the inevitable wind-bound Cape of...hope. Allesbeste Marketing and Avor are wrapping up their fourth season. Our supply is growing steadily from South African growers. Although I firmly believe it's not the numbers that move growers backwards and forwards between exporters (yes initially it might move them, however when these fail they pivot back to where they are comfortable and trust the operator), we'll be sharing our performance numbers. Open up our benchmarks for you to look at. Now the thought crosses my mind...why do marketing companies only visit you for coffee and show you the numbers, and not show them publicly? Are we breaking some "bro-code" here - sorry guys!? Perhaps we might just hurt ourselves doing this? Well, here's an open invite bring your popcorn and fountain coke, 3D glasses if you like. Let's make it a show to remember :)
No seriously, both Allesbeste and Avor love the fact that we can be transparent and the modern marketing environment makes this increasingly easier. Even tools like Qlik and business intelligence make it even easier to be transparent and show you what you like to see. This session we'll spend some time answering some of the questions you or your neighbor might have about Allesbeste Marketing. Rather bring the pop-corn for that:
Can Allesbeste and Avor really compete with the big dogs? - Wait!? what!? you mean we are the Pomeranians of the Avo industry - shucks. No kidding well get serious about numbers. Don't worry. We might also define what size is all about and where we do fit in that you might not yet notice.
"But, if I want to supply (or supply more) can you really handle it? - "Oh this is my favorite!!!" love this one. We'll talk capacity that Avor is selling in Europe currently and how South Africa strategically fits in.
"Don't you only do Maluma..." - "Gits frits!?" (ek hoop nie iemand wat die lees se naam is regtig Frits nie) Well, we don't but we are pretty sure we do it the best. But bring our cultivar brothers and sisters too.
"You don't have ripening rooms like..." - is there no eye-roll emoji here? can we continue this conversation in private?
"You're in South Africa (or Tzaneen) and I'm in...although I like your concept unfortunately it will be tough..."
Sure there are more FAQs that we'll get into. Some facts and numbers. We are excited to share our vision on the way forward. Above and beyond all of the normal marketing talks. Growers are still getting hurt by Maluma arrivals while others are doing fantastic, and can't stop talking about how well Maluma does on price per kilogram back on farm and even more income per hectare. The marketing landscape has changed, and that does influence Maluma and some do differ on the correct strategy for it. We share our vision and will provide you with a few guidelines on ensuring your marketing agency knows what their doing. Our protocols are improving year by year. Even more our confidence in them. Over the past seasons, we've seen arrivals after as much as 35-55 days, still arriving good and sound and selling well. Let's recap a few basics.
With clever PR we might influence you into things, or try. So might others. However now more than ever we are just so excited in sharing what we see and sharing what we hope we know. In the end, it's about making growers stronger with more options and clear benchmarks.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
